Illinois Wheelchair Lift Named POM

Our Project of the Month for November features a small open vertical platform lift installed at the Morton Grove Public Library in Morton Grove, Illinois. The library has been in operation for the past 75 years, starting as a book exchange where they threw all of the books in a big barrel for readers to sort through.

The lift showcases a creative solution for fastening the lifting mechanism (mast). In this case, custom towers were fabricated to provide the structural support. The lift has a 90 degree entry/exit configuration, an auto-fold ramp for the lower landing and power operated gates.

The area has a very interesting history. Back in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s, it was well-known as a destination for illegal gambling. The area had many roadhouses, and perhaps the most famous was The Dells, supposedly run by Al Capone and his gang, just down the street from where the library now sits.

Congratulations to our friends at Handi-Lift, Inc. of Carlstadt, New Jersey. Their submission of photos of an outdoor Genesis vertical platform lift with enclosure has earned them the Garaventa Lift Project of the Month for October, 2015.

This attractive installation features a Genesis Enclosure model powder-coated with a custom RAL color. The enclosure panels are bronze tinted acrylic.
