Inclined Platform Lift for Zedi wins February Project of the Month

20141106_094003Congratulations to Canwest Elevator & Lifts for their installation of a large Artira in an open core stairway at the corporate headquarters of Zedi, Inc., a large company specializing in the manufacturing of diagnostic equipment for the Oil and Gas Industry.

20141106_09394520141106_093705This project was especially challenging, as the stair treads were not strong enough to support the lift and the stringers were inset. The solution was to provide custom tread supports attached to the stringer, directly underneath each support tower.20141106_093739

The folks at Zedi were not required to install a lift to comply with code. Nor did they do this to provide access for a specific employee. Nobody that currently works there is a wheelchair user. They installed the lift because they thought making their entire office accessible was the right thing to do. Good call!

Congratulations to Mitsubishi Electric de Colombia, also know as Melco. Their installation at the Centro Comercial Unicentro Mall in Bogata has earned them the Project of the Month for November, 2014.

A tower-mounted Xpress II allows for access to a cinema over a bright, colorful set of stairs with a mirrored adjacent wall and graphics painted on the stairs.

There are two lifts in this project. A Genesis Enclosure is also installed in the cinema lobby to provide access to a second seating level.

Independent Auditor Rates Garaventa Lift on “5S”

Peter_and_AngeloAugust 27, 2014

Angelo Sahagun shows off his work area to Peter Rice, an auditor who is conducting an independent audit of every work station at Garaventa Lift, including all of the offices. He is looking for conformance to the principles of “5S” – sort, simplify, sweep, standardize and sustain.

Each department is rated on each of the 5 elements using a five point scale. Every work station, every department, and the company as a whole are all expected to show significant continuous improvement.

The scoring criteria for every element are posted in all departments, along with the most CR_5S_Boardrecent audit results and action items to be completed in order to increase the score for the next audit. Weekly  “walk around” inspections ensure that the program remains a top priority.
