Garaventa Lift at NAEC 2014

The 65th Annual Convention and Exposition is underway for the National Association of Elevator Contractors. This year, it is being held in San Antonio, Texas. One of the important elements of the NAEC is the educational sessions, where attendees can learn about various topics affecting our industry and enhance their certifications as Certified Elevator Technicians and Certified Accessibility Technicians.

Here, James Boydston of Handi-Lift Inc., long-time Garaventa Lift representatives, teaches a class on the certifications programs, C.A.T. and C.E.T.

Independent Auditor Rates Garaventa Lift on “5S”

Peter_and_AngeloAugust 27, 2014

Angelo Sahagun shows off his work area to Peter Rice, an auditor who is conducting an independent audit of every work station at Garaventa Lift, including all of the offices. He is looking for conformance to the principles of “5S” – sort, simplify, sweep, standardize and sustain.

Each department is rated on each of the 5 elements using a five point scale. Every work station, every department, and the company as a whole are all expected to show significant continuous improvement.

The scoring criteria for every element are posted in all departments, along with the most CR_5S_Boardrecent audit results and action items to be completed in order to increase the score for the next audit. Weekly  “walk around” inspections ensure that the program remains a top priority.

Installation for Nobel Winner Named Garaventa Lift Installation of the Month for August

Nobel Prize Winner Gabriel Garcia Marquesz

Nobel Prize Winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Earlier this year, we lost a great Colombian citizen, Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez. “Gabo”, as he was affectionately known, was a novelist, short-story writer, screenwriter and journalist. Considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century, he was awarded the 1972 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. On his death in April 2014, Juan Manuel Santos, the President of Colombia, described him as “the greatest Colombian who ever lived”. – wikipedia

Unfortunately, Mr. Márquez never had the opportunity to use the brand-new Garaventa Home Elevator installed at his residence in Cartagena. This project was completed after his passing.

The elevator features an aluminum and glass cab with full vision panels in the cab gates and full glass entrance doors. This clean, modern look is becoming more and more popular, and this installation has been named the Garaventa Lift Installation of the Month for August, 2014. Congratulations to the team at  Mitsubishi Electric de Colombia (Melco de Colombia)!
