25 Years of the ADA

1979-Letter-from-Wes

RFQ from 1979

On July 26th, the Americans with Disabilities Act turned 25 years old. When it was initially enacted in 1990, it was a watershed moment in the world of designing spaces for use by the public and for the advancement of barrier-free accessibility.

Garaventa Lifts were already available over ten years before the ADA was enacted. Before federal legislation required barrier-free solutions, Garaventa was there, pioneers in “Creating An Accessible World”.

Shown is correspondence from Wes Jones in 1979, inquiring about a wheelchair lift. Wes is still a dealer for Garaventa Lift, 36 years later. Wes leads the team at Lift-Aids, Inc. of Euless, Texas, one of 15 Top Perfomers for Garaventa Lift in 2014.

4th Annual Give A Kid A Lift Named Garaventa Lift Project of the Month for September 2014

Today, we celebrate the 4th annual Give A Kid A Lift installation by naming this year’s project as the Garaventa Lift Project of the Month for September 2014. As always, the primary sponsors are Canwest Elevator & Lifts,  Garaventa Lift and Easter Seals. This year, Enhance Your Home Renovations has stepped up as the general contractor.

Each year, Easter Seals chooses a recipient who would benefit greatly from the installation of a new lift. The rest of the sponsors pitch in with fund-raising, time and/or materials to make it happen.

This year’s recipient is 16 year-old Wilfredo Aleman, who was born in Colombia with cerebral palsy. This was extremely challenging. Through sponsorship from Maple Leaf Foods, the family was able to move to Canada. Eventually, they settled in Calgary, where they have been welcomed by the community and the support network available to Wilftredo.

Wilfredo’s mother, Sofia, expresses her gratitude, “…now he doesn’t have a worry because thanks to (the sponsors) he can move freely in the house. Once again thanks and many blessings to Easter Seals, Canwest Elevator & Lifts, Enhance Your Home Renovations, Garaventa Lift and especially to all of the volunteers who donated their knowledge, their time and their work for my son to have a better future.”IMG_1948 IMG_1946
